Homework First or Play First?

Welcome to the great after-school debate.

The school day ends.

They come home.

Snack happens.

And then comes the question:

“Homework first… or can I go play?”

Some homes are firmly:

TEAM HOMEWORK FIRST

Get it done.

Bag packed.

Books closed.

Then the rest of the evening is yours.

No homework hanging over anyone's head. No 8:30 PM panic about the project that was “forgotten”.

Makes perfect sense.

But then there's...

TEAM PLAY FIRST

They've already spent most of the day sitting, listening and concentrating.

Let them run.

Let them see their friends.

Let them kick a ball around, cycle, shoot hoops or simply get outside.

Then come back, settle down and tackle the homework.

Also makes perfect sense.

And then, of course, there's...

TEAM “IT DEPENDS”

Big homework day? Homework first.

Beautiful evening and friends waiting downstairs? Play first.

Completely exhausted? Maybe neither — at least not immediately.

Because Beyond School doesn't look the same every day.

And perhaps that's the point.

There may not be one perfect order.

Different children concentrate differently. Different families have different schedules. And what works brilliantly on Monday might completely fall apart on Thursday.

So we're not going to tell you which team is right.

We want you to tell us.
